Banana Bread
Tonight is my Board's first unofficial get together outside of our meeting room and we are having a potluck dinner. For my contribution I decided to bake my Mom's famous banana bread, which, if you have ever been fortunate to try it, are fantastic.
My second and final loaf of banana bread has just been taken out of the oven and been placed on the cooling rack. Both loaves smell absolutely delicious but they taste even better! I have been stealing small slices from the first loaf and although I really should refrain from doing so I just cannot help myself.
Mmm.

Rolling Down the River
Here are a couple pictures from the whitewater rafting trip I went on a fortnight ago. Unfortunately, my friends who took the cooler pictures haven't forwarded them to me yet so these will have to do.

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing
Sitting. In a computer lab typing away.
Waiting. For the clock to strike half past noon so I can finally satiate my hunger.
Wishing. That I don't have a prospective student to host for lunch.
I'm a Lunch Host for my college's prospective students. I normally don't mind because it's amusing (and I get free food) but not today. Another girl is a primary host on the same day as me and I always get there before she does (even though I already show up late) so I always have to host a prospie. Not to mention the primary lunch hosts never show up on the days that I'm a back-up.
So my plan is to show up even later so I give the other girl a chance to host...
...And I'll still get free food.

Over By the River
The day before classes a small group of friends and I decided to head over to a river up in Washington to swim, drink, and be merry.
Here are some of the pictures taken that afternoon. Enjoy!

RBJ September 2007 Collaboration
I try to get a good seven to eight hours of sleep each night but sometimes it still feels like it isn't enough. This was clearly the case when I was sitting in my Economic Development class the other day.
Do you know that feeling when you are about to fall asleep but your hand is still moving and taking notes? It's like you're conciously falling while your subconcious is still listening to the professor and taking down notes.
Yeah.
Well, that happened to me on Tuesday.
Trying to stay awake so I can take notes was working for a while because I was managing to write everything down even while in a sleepy state, but then my vision starts to blur from my heavy eyelids. Through my blurred vision I notice that a couple of words that I had just written were significantly smaller and messier than the rest of my notes (this is my OCD kicking in); I erase it and I let my eyes close but I open them up again to re-write whatever I had originally written. Although my vision was still blurred I could tell that everything was a lot neater.
I guess my brain was satisfied so I fall asleep for a few seconds. (And I swear it was only for a few seconds!). I awake still drowsy but my sleepy feeling immediately changes to complete horror when I see what I had just written in my notebook...
"...Pasta & rice. Mmm."
Sigh.

Ready, Set, Go!
I am pleased to announce that after some two weeks of receiving and reviewing applications and conducting interviews, we have finally formed the 2007-2008 Board for the student government that I am presiding over this year. Although I am excited because I feel like we have an extremely strong Board this year, I am also glad that this whole process is over because that is one less stressful thing crossed off my list. Of course, that will be replaced with more stressful matters but I just want to enjoy this feeling for a bit before I get all stressed out again.

Whitewater Rafting in the Deschutes
I just returned from whitewater rafting all day long on the Deschutes river. It was only my second time but it was without a doubt more fun and more exciting than the first. All that is because I went with my wonderful roommates and we managed to get on a raft with our an extremely adventurous (and safe) raft guide, who also happened to be a friend of ours.
As much as I would like to tell you all about the day's event, I want nothing more than to crawl into bed and collapse because I am so tired. And even that is something that I cannot do just yet because it is a Sunday night and I am a college student. Unlike my roommates, however, at least I have done all of my homework due tomorrow, which is why I have the small luxury of typing this entry. I just need to get started on some work for Tuesday simply because I am such a "wonderful" student.
I promise pictures! (Once my friends send me their photos...).

Highlights
Although it is finally the weekend, I am still rather busy! I do expect things to die down soon once everything and everyone is settled into their schedules, which already started happening. I wish I could post more often since I now have substantial things to post about but, alas!, time is not on my side.
Anyway, here are some highlights of what has been going on with me this past week:
- Working with the Portland Trail Blazers to get discount tickets for several events with the purpose of integrating international students and athletes since these are the two most "insular" groups on-campus.
- Masquerade Ball tonight, perhaps?
- Cooking.
- Spending an entire day whitewater rafting.
- Three amazing roommates...
- ...in a sweet apartment.
- Being hired as a 'Program and Research Assistant.'
- Meetings after meetings after meetings after meetings.
I decided to quit early since listing it like that makes it seem less exciting than it really is in real life.
I am loving every minute of it though.

Superbad and Supercold
With my comforter wrapped around me I lie atop my pillows embracing them half-heartedly. It is so cozy that it just makes me want to fall right back to sleep and I have a feeling I will after I finish writing this entry even though I had just woken up from a long slumber an hour ago.
Unfortunately, I have a bit of a cold. (Which is probably why my body's telling me to sleep while my mind's yelling at me to do some work). My sister and her friend decided to come up to visit me; with my sister sleeping on my bed and her friend sleeping in a sleeping bag on my floor, I decided to sleep in my boyfriend's room who was gone for the weekend. For some bizarre reason it was extremely cold in his room all throughout the night. I kept tossing and turning looking for ways to keep myself warm that by the time I woke up the next morning I was in his sleeping bag under three layers of blankets... Sneezing and sniffling.
So, yes, my sister did come up to visit me for two days. We went to see Superbad, which is just beyond hilarious, went all over the city, and, well, that's more or less it. We just had some laidback fun in the city, which was still probably a nice change of scenery for her and her friend since their college is situated in some rural town.
Anyway, sleep is trying to lure me in and I feel like giving in. But before I completely give in, I just wanted to let you know that my first week of classes is over but I am just holding off talking about it because I plan on writing an entry about it (or something similar) for this month's RBJ collaboration.
